3 days (3 on horseback)

Home Circuits 3 days (3 on horseback)

“Three days to reconnect with yourself, the horses, and nature”

  • Duration: 3 days / 2 nights
  • Group: Maximum 8 participants
  • Riding level: All levels – suitable for families, beginners, and experienced riders
  • Location: Hacienda Monte Claro

Three days to slow down, observe, understand… and experience the horse differently.

In the heart of the mountains of Costa Rica, this equestrian immersion invites you to discover the horse’s world in all its depth: its language, its biomechanics, its intelligence, and its sensitivity.
Here, you are not just coming to ride. You are coming to build a relationship.

Each participant is paired with their own horse for the entire stay, allowing a genuine and progressive bond to develop—from groundwork to riding.

Led by a French state-certified riding instructor with 25 years of experience, specialized in young horse education and behavioral rehabilitation, this retreat adapts to every profile: curious families, horse lovers, or experienced riders wishing to refine their understanding.

Highlights of the trip – 3 days (3 on horseback)

  • Your personal horse for the entire stay, carefully selected from our mixed herd of Quarter Horses, Spanish horses, American Pintos, and Criollos.
  • Unforgettable trail rides through coffee plantations, tropical forests, waterfalls, breathtaking views of Volcán Turrialba and the Cordillera de Talamanca, and even the possibility of swimming in the river with your horse.
  • Discovery – or deeper exploration – of a horsemanship approach: understanding equine behavior and communication, and learning how to use it to build a harmonious, trusting partnership.
  • Opportunity to observe a wide variety of wildlife living on the property: 160 species of birds (including toucans, hummingbirds, tanagers, oropendolas, and birds of prey), coyotes, armadillos, coatis, pumas, jaguarundis, sloths, anteaters, butterflies, reptiles… Welcome to a country that represents only 0.03% of the planet’s surface yet contains nearly 6% of the world’s biodiversity!
  • Continental breakfasts served with tropical fruits. Healthy, locally sourced lunches and dinners prepared fresh daily by our wonderful Costa Rican cooks.
  • Accommodation in a large colonial house with unique decor, or magical and unusual nights in eco-decks surrounded by nature.
  • Intimate group size: 3 to 8 riders.

DAY 1 – Observe, Understand, Connect

Arrival in the morning at the Hacienda and installation in your chosen accommodation: nature-immersed eco-deck or guesthouse room.

The day begins with an immersion into the heart of the herd: 22 horses live freely in their pastures. From a respectful distance, you will learn to read their interactions, decode their body language, understand their social organization, and recognize their fundamental needs.

This first approach profoundly changes the way we see horses.

After lunch at the farm, enjoy an interactive session on learning theory:

  • How does a horse learn?
  • How can we communicate clearly?
  • Why are timing and consistency essential?

These foundations provide the keys to interacting fairly and respectfully.

Then comes the long-awaited moment: meeting your horse.
In the round pen, at liberty, you will learn how to approach, manage your energy, find your place, and initiate true connection.

The day concludes with hands-on care: grooming, showering, feeding, and returning the horses to pasture.

First bond. First sensations. First emotions.

Dinner and overnight at the Hacienda.

DAY 2 – From Ground to Saddle

Early in the morning, a short biomechanics session introduces how the horse’s body functions: the back, natural balance, and the rider’s influence on movement. Understanding the body in order to respect it.

After caring for and preparing your horse, you begin by revisiting the connection established on the ground the previous day. Then, you seek to rediscover the same sensations under saddle: the same clarity, the same communication codes, the same lightness.

Work on posture, breathing, and balance enhances mounted communication, regardless of your riding level.

After lunch, you head out for a first immersive trail ride of approximately 1.5 hours through the property’s landscapes: rolling pastures, coffee plantations, forests, and panoramic valley views. Let yourself be carried by your horse’s rhythm and this unique way of discovering natural surroundings.

Upon return, you participate in horse care: rinsing, feeding, and simple recovery stretches.
A convivial dinner and peaceful evening in the heart of nature.

DAY 3 – Nature Immersion & Deep Connection

On the final morning, departure for a longer trail ride of approximately 3 hours.
By now, horses and riders know each other, and the relationship built over the previous days fully takes sense.

You ride toward the Reventazón River, with breathtaking views of the Cordillera de Talamanca and Volcán Turrialba. Enjoy a break and snack on a small sandy riverbank and, weather permitting, experience the  unforgettable moment of swimming with your horse. On the way back, you pass a magnificent 40-meter waterfall. Depending on the group’s level and conditions, more dynamic gaits may be offered.

After lunch back at the farm, the rhythm slows for a privileged moment: an introduction to equine massage. You will learn simple relaxation techniques and offer your horse a true moment of release. A quiet, intimate experience that gently brings the retreat to a close.

Free time with the horses before departure at the end of the afternoon.
